Yes, but we would be much worse off without words like Edutainment and Rockumentary.
Posted by: Patrick at September 3, 2003 08:28 AMHow do you feel about "guestimate"?
Posted by: Christin at September 3, 2003 09:56 AMI am strongly opposed to "proactive".
Posted by: Duane at September 3, 2003 03:17 PMI can understand having an objection to proactive. I'm not really sure if the "pro" adds anything to the meaning.
Guestimate is, of course, unacceptable.
This word is slightly different than the types of words up for discussion, but "irregardless" drives me up the wall. What does the "ir" change in the meaning of "regardless"? In the context people tend to use it, it changes nothing, but grammatically it reverses the meaning.
There was an episode of Friends where Joey used the word "supposably", instead of the proper "supposedly". Amy and I say it as a joke, but I've been amazed at how many times I've heard others use it in all seriousness.
